Ice Maker Module Replacement Cost

  • Ice maker, water valve or supply line $290–$820

Parts and labour, as a range: the part your model takes and the work to reach it settle where inside it the job falls, and you get that one figure before anything is done. $89 gets a technician to the unit and pays for finding the fault; agree to the repair and that $89 is taken back off its price.

When a homeowner rings with a quote for a whole new ice maker, what we usually find is a module that is fine and simply never got its water, and less often one that fills, freezes and then cannot let go of the cubes. Sub-Zero Repair Bothell prices the module only once the fill has been seen arriving. Call (206) 202-2799 before you agree to a figure given unseen.

The module, because the bin stayed emptyA cube wedged in the mold or the fill cup, so the next cycle could not begin.
The module, because it went quietThe ice-level arm sitting raised, which tells the ice maker the bin is already full.
A tired module on an older unitA bin pushed in crooked on its rails, stopping the ice maker from running a harvest.

Before a module is quoted

Two things have to be true together. Water must be reaching the mold on each fill, which we watch rather than assume, and the ice maker must still fail to freeze or release a batch once it has that water. If either half is missing, the fault sits earlier on the path, and replacing the module would leave you with a new part and the same empty bin.

The look-alikes

Sub-Zero’s own advice for a stopped ice maker starts with the bin sitting level and fully home, a cube caught in the assembly or the fill cup, and the arm resting down. Each of those can make a sound module look finished, and each costs nothing to clear once it is spotted.

What the figure covers

The band printed above is parts and labour for the module and fitting it. It does not include work on the valve or the line unless the diagnosis shows they failed too, and you hear that before anything is ordered. The $89 visit is the first line of the bill and comes off it when you go ahead.

What moves it up, what moves it down

No figures here on purpose: the diagnosis settles the number, and you agree it first.
Pushes it upKeeps it down
The module has to be reached through a freezer that must first be emptied and defrosted The fault is a jammed cube or a raised arm, cleared on the visit with no part
Ice has built up round the assembly and has to melt before the part comes out The module comes out without the unit leaving its opening
The water feed turns out to share the fault, so the valve is part of the same job You approve the work on the day, so the $89 is taken off the total

  • Ice cream had gone soft and the display read fifteen degrees. I described the clicking on the phone and he arrived with the likely parts aboard. Defrost thermistor. Ninety minutes, and it has sat at zero since.

  • Our unit is older than my youngest child and I expected to be told it was beyond help. Instead he read it, found the defrost circuit had failed rather than anything structural, and had it holding by evening.

  • The upper zone sat seven degrees above its setting and would not come down. It was the zone thermostat rather than the board, and he showed me why the readings said so.
